What You Need to Know About Your Nissan Key Fob
You've either lost your Nissan keyfob or it has stopped functioning. Before you panic or call the dealer, look back to the last place you had it.

Smart Keys
The key fob that was included with your Nissan is an important part of the car's advanced keyless entry system. It communicates with the vehicle's electronics to open doors or start the engine, and it features a convenient design that is easy to carry around. Smart keys are wireless unlike the previous models which required you to insert the key into an ignition slot to access your vehicle's internal systems. When you get close to the vehicle your Nissan detects the Intelligent Key fob's proximity to it and activates its internal functions. This can include opening and closing the doors, raising or lowering the tailgate, and even launching the engine.
Some smart key models have a hidden metal valet key. This key can be pulled out from an opening on the side of the Smart Key fob to secure the trunk or glove box before handing it over to the valet. The Smart Key fob has a charging pocket that can be used to charge the battery when it is not in use.
If your Nissan's Intelligent Key fob isn't working as it should, you probably require replacing its batteries. Most fobs have CR2025 or CR2032 batteries. Instructions to change the batteries are available in the owner's manual.
Intelligent Key Fob
Nissan Intelligent Key Fobs permit you to open your car's doors and turn on the engine with one touch. You can also activate presets to suit your preferences. To do this, remove the hidden key from your key fob, then access the battery compartment. Replace the old battery with a brand new one after taking out the old one. Make sure the positive side of the new battery faces the same direction as the previous one did. Finally close the battery compartment and return the key to its concealed location within the case.
Remote Start
Nissan remote start lets drivers to cool or heat their vehicles from outside, provided they're within the operating range. The ignition of the car can be activated by pressing the button on the key fob or smartphone application. The remote start system can also activate climate control and allow the driver to set their preferred temperature. Some systems offer two-way communications that allow the driver to see what is happening in their vehicle.
A low battery is the most common reason behind your remote not working. The key fob is powered by a tiny battery which can be replaced. It can last for around two years. Lockout protection stops lockouts caused by impedance malfunctions. A special module inside the power control unit is able to monitor the activity of the impedance relay and then disables the output. This feature is available for vehicles equipped with the Smart Key system, or through the vehicle's personalization menu.
